Next time I go anywhere I'm taking one bag also. Preferably one that I can carry on, too. I've had too many bags torn and ruined from being checked. When I got home from my last trip, there was a new hole in my duffel big enough to stick a fist in. I don't think anything fell out, but what if something did?

Just me, a carryon with enough clothes to survive, and a backpack for my camera and things.

I heard of that pilgrimage when a friend of my went a few years ago. You're totally right that after going on a trip like that, you realise that there are a lot of things you don't need.

Try to do the Pilgrimage to Santiago the Compostela. I made it one time, and after two journeys a lot of things were superfluous (unwanted)!
